Industry Notes:

Medicare Adoption Of Life Safety Code Updates Will Impact Inpatient Hospices

Inpatient hospices, take note: CMS is proposing updates to the Life Safety Code fire prevention policy that governs health care provider buildings, including inpatient hospices. Among other changes, adopting the LSC 2012 provisions would allow facilities to increase suite size, permit controlled access doors to prevent wandering patients, and address issues of alcohol based hand rub dispensers in corridors and patient rooms, CMS notes in a release.

The proposed rule appears in the April 16 Federal Register at https://federalregister.gov/a/2014-08602, and comments are due by June 16.
