MAC Ups Number Of Medical Review Targets
Palmetto adds ‘live discharges’ to its hit list.
Hospices aren’t just taking a beating in the popular press for high rates of live discharges. Now their claims are under the microscope for that reason — at least at one contractor.
In its most recent list of active medical review topics, Medicare Administrative Contractor Palmetto GBA adds “Live Discharges” to its list of hospice areas for active medical review. Palmetto also adds the general “Hospice Services” topic to its preexisting focus area of “Hospice Services in SNF” as designated with a Q5004 code.
Palmetto lists 15 home health topics, up from 10 last quarter. High-therapy HIPPS codes make up most of the list, in addition to the general “Home Health Services Post Pay Review.” The MAC maintains a new entry from last time, “Aggregate Length of Stay and Disbursement/Beneficiary.”
