MAC Gets Specific On What's Allowed For Telehealth F2F Visits

Home health agencies shouldn’t forget that a phone call won’t suffice when it comes to the requirement for the physician face-to-face encounter for home health. “As of March 1, 2020, telehealth was expanded to remove the limitation of access and location to all,” acknowledges HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor Palmetto GBA in an updated article about F2F requirements. But “the encounter must be in real time and utilize two-way audio and visual components,” Palmetto specifies in the article updated Feb. 2. Watch out: If the F2F encounter is invalidated because it wasn’t two-way audio and visual, Medicare will deny the entire episode and its two 30-day billing periods.
