Industry Notes:

LTC Giant Tries Takeover Of Gentiva

The industry’s largest HHA chain could get a lot bigger, if a takeover bid ends up going through. Atlanta-based Gentiva Health Care Ser-vices Inc. has rejected a bid from long-term care giant Kindred Healthcare Inc. The merged companies would have $7.2 billion in annual revenues, Kindred says. (Gentiva recorded $1.73 billion in revenues in 2013.) Kindred offered $14 per share, or $1.6 billion.

Kindred made public its bid, which was increased from a previous offer, in hopes that Gentiva shareholders would support the acquisition. A hostile takeover may follow, observers say.
