More proof that non-profits are struggling in today’s reimbursement environment: The Visiting Nurse Service of New York is eliminating 775 positions, reports Crain’s New York newspaper. The cuts represent a 4 percent reduction the workforce for VNSNY, which is the largest nonprofit home health agency in the country.
VNS is laying off a mix of clinical and administrative staffers, with less than 3 percent of the agency’s total clinical workforce receiving layoff notices, the newspaper says.
Medicare burdens and cuts aren’t VNS’s only problem. Medicaid managed care rates are 7.45 percent below what agemcoes were previously paid under New York’s former fee-for-service model.
The latest layoffs come after VNSNY let go 570 workers last October in a corporate restructure, Crain’s New York adds.
