Industry Notes:

In-Home Hospice Demand Surges

The uptick in hospice utilization is not going unnoticed. Hospices are seeing double-digit percentage increases in the number of patients being cared for at home, reports the Associated Press.

For example: Carroll Hospice in Westminster, Maryland, has seen a 30 percent to 40 percent spike in demand for home-based care due to the desire to avoid nursing homes and COVID risk, executive director Regina Bodnar told AP.

Caregivers’ work-from-home schedules also make maintaining a hospice patient at home more feasible during the pandemic, noted Carole Fisher with the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation.
