Industry Notes:

Hospital-At-Home Programs Grow

Hospital at Home initiatives continue to break new ground.

Example No. 1: Inbound Health, a company that enables health systems and health plans to offer hospital-at-home and skilled nursing-at-home programs, says its proprietary platform has enabled Allina Health in Minnesota to successfully conduct over 5,000 home-based acute care episodes. The program lowers the total cost of care by 30 to 40 percent on a risk-adjusted basis while achieving similar or improved clinical outcomes when compared to traditional facility-based care, Inbound Health maintains in a release.

Example No. 2: St. Luke’s Health System has expanded its HAH program to two of its hospitals in Kansas City, it says in a release. Saint Luke’s is partnering with Medically Home on the program. “By leveraging the latest and most advanced digital tools and technologies, we are able to provide patients with real-time monitoring and immediate access to their highly skilled care team while remaining where they feel the most comfortable, in their own home,” St. Luke’s Chief Digital Officer Debe Gash says in the release.

Example No. 3: Atrium Health is partnering with Best Buy Health to enhance its HAH program. “Atrium Health and Best Buy Health will address the complex requirements of the hospital at home program, such as patient education and enabling technology in the home, with the help of specially trained Best Buy Geek Squad agents to assist with logistics and technical support,” they say in a release. In 2021, Best Buy acquired Current Health, which specializes in telehealth, including remote patient monitoring.
