Hospice VBID Effective Date Clarification Issued
Effective dates for the Medicare Advantage hospice carve-in are clearer after an update from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Value-Based Insurance Design (VBID) Model implementation is effective “when the Hospice Election Start Date is on or after January 1, 2021 and prior to January 1, 2025,” CMS says in a June 9 update to Change Request 11754. Heads up: “Providers MUST still submit claims for these services to Medicare,” says the related MLN Matters article. “Non-contracting providers must also submit the same billing forms used to bill original Medicare to plans participating in the VBID Model’s hospice benefit component for payment.” The MLN Matters article, which includes a link to the CR, is at www.cms.gov/files/document/mm11754.pdf.
