The Medicare Advantage hospice carve-in will change shape a bit next year, Medicare officials have revealed. “Under the Value-Based Insurance Design (VBID) Model, in Calendar Year (CY) 2024, thirteen Medicare Advantage Organizations (MAOs) will participate in the Hospice Benefit Component, offering 78 plan benefit packages (PBPs),” the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says on its VBID plans webpage. Four plans are dropping out this year, CMS notes: Catholic Health Care System in New York; Elevance Health Inc. (MMM Healthcare) in Puerto Rico; Presbyterian Healthcare Services in New Mexico; and UnitedHealth Group in Alabama, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Texas. Two others, Commonwealth Care Alliance Inc. in Massachusetts and Intermountain Health Care Inc. in Idaho and Utah, dropped out in previous years. Two new plans will participate in 2024, points out The Health Group in its electronic newsletter: First Sacramento in Texas and Sentara in Florida. “In 2023, 15 plans provided 119 benefit packages covering 806 counties in 24 states and territories,” the accounting and advisory firm highlights. “In 2024, coverage now consists of 13 plans providing 78 benefit packages covering 609 counties in 20 states and territories,” The Health Group says.
