Hospices facilities continue to open and close across the nation. In Mississippi: The Jackson area’s only inpatient hospice facility, Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, has closed its doors, the hospice says in a release. The closure is “due to many changes in healthcare” and will “allow Hospice Ministries to put more focus on providing end of life care to patients in their ‘homes,’ whether it be their personal residence, a nursing home, or an assisted living facility,” it says. In Michigan: Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods in Byron Township has added the Van Andel Hope and Healing Pavilion, it says in a release. The new space “will allow for expanded bereavement services as well as important hospice education and staff collaboration and respite,” the hospice says on its website. In Iowa: MercyOne is closing another inpatient hospice facility in the state. The health system is closing its Johnston Hospice House in Johnston, reports KCCI. MercyOne closed an inpatient hospice facility in Mason City earlier this year (see HHHW, Vol. XXXII, No. 14). The health system cites “post-pandemic economic issues” and says it will have a hospice facility still open in Des Moines, according to the news station.
