Home Health CPO Claims Lead To Prison Sentence

The former owner of a Chicago physician practice is facing jail time related to bogus Care Plan Oversight payments.

Henry Smilie, owner and CEO of Home Physician Services, submitted nearly $2 million in claims for home health CPO services “that were either not rendered or involved treatment that was far less intricate than portrayed in the claims submitted by Smilie’s company to Medicare,” the Department of Justice says in a release.

After pleading guilty to the scheme, a judge ordered Smilie to serve a year in prison and pay $1.2 million in restitution, the DOJ says.
