Home Care Workforce Action Alliance Tackles Staffing Woes

Staff shortages are crippling home care agencies, and now a new organization is taking aim at the problem.

The Home Care Workforce Action Alliance is “dedicated to raising awareness for home care workforce issues,” it says on its website. “When home care shifts go unfilled, either the individual is left at home alone with no care, or a loved one must fill the void. Too often, nursing homes are the only option,” it says.

The Home Care Association of America and the National Association for Home Care & Hospice teamed up to form the alliance, HCAOA says in a release. “We simply don’t have the supply of professional caregivers to meet the rising demand for home care,” says HCAOA’s Vicki Hoak in a release. “This is not just a problem for the home care industry; this is a crisis facing our society, a society that is growing older every day.”
