Industry Notes:
Home Care Popularity Empties Nursing Homes

The effort to keep seniors in their homes may face some opposition from nursing homes. Case in point: "Over the past 10 years, the average nursing home occupancy in Florida has remained below 90 percent and has been declining steadily," according to a Florida Senate Committee on Health Regulation report, reports the South Florida Business Journal. That trend is largely due to beneficiaries' preference, says Dan Brady, with Miami Jewish Health Systems and The Florida PACE Center in Miami. The state is debating whether to extend a 10-year-old, state-imposed moratorium on additional nursing home beds, which is set to expire in July.
