Home-Based Cardiac Rehab Saves Lives, New VA Study Shows

A new study of home-based cardiac rehabilitation (HBCR) shows that patients receiving HBCR fared better than those who didn’t.

“The hazard of mortality remained 36 percent lower among HBCR participants versus nonparticipants,” says the study of Veterans Administration patients. The study appeared in the March 1 issue of the Journal of the American Heart Association.

“Our findings suggest that HBCR may benefit patients who cannot attend traditional CR programs,” says study authors headed by Nirupama Krishnamurthi at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. See the study at https:// www.ahajournals.org/doi/full/10.1161/JAHA.122.025856#.
