The current Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget appears poised to become the next HHS leader. Sylvia Mathews Burwell faced little opposition at a May 8 Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pen-sions Committee hearing and a May 14 Senate Fi-nance Committee hearing, according to press re-ports. She is expected to easily win confirmation in the coming weeks.
Burwell’s focus will likely be on the continued implementation of the Affordable Care Act’s “Obamacare” health law. But she did tell senators that she hoped to avoid using the ACA-created Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), often referred to as “super-MedPAC.”
