If you don’t furnish health insurance to your employees, the government would like you to encourage them to seek it out themselves during the 2021 Marketplace Special Enrollment Period. “Workers in the U.S., including those working with gig companies following COVID-19 related unemployment, may now be eligible for reduced premiums and increased savings for health insurance coverage on HealthCare.gov,” says the Department of Health & Human Services in a release. “Under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP), most consumers are able to take advantage of reduced monthly premiums through increased tax credit help,” HHS says.
“We want these hardworking men and women to know they can purchase quality, affordable health coverage through HealthCare.gov,” HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra says in the release. “I encourage everyone to go to Healthcare.gov to see if they are eligible for lower costs coverage today.” Through Aug. 15, “consumers who want to enroll in coverage, compare plan offerings, or learn if they qualify for more affordable premiums can check their coverage options … by visiting HealthCare.gov or CuidadoDeSalud.gov,” HHS explains. “Consumers can view 2021 plans and prices and submit an application to see if they are eligible for enrollment and for financial assistance. If eligible, they can enroll in a plan that best meets their needs.” More information is at www.healthcare.gov/quick-guide/getting-marketplace-health-insurance.
