Industry Notes:

HHA Dumps COVID Vax Requirement

Providers are starting to drop their staff COVID vaccination requirements, now that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is lifting the requirement.

Reminder: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ final rule published in the June 5 Federal Register withdraws COVID-19 vaccination mandates effective Aug. 4. But legal experts say enforcement of the requirement will be light to nonexistent between now and then (see HHHW by AAPC, Vol. XXXII, No. 21).

The Washington County Board of Health in Iowa voted unanimously on June 22 to eliminate the vaccination requirement for the county’s home health staff, reports the Southeast Iowa Union newspaper.

“Those policies are things we enacted because of the pandemic, and CMS is saying, in order to be in compliance with our certification, we no longer have to have those,” Washington County Public Health Director Emily Tokheim said in the BOH meeting, according to the Union.
