Just because it’s not Medicare fraud doesn’t mean it won’t carry a big penalty. In Memphis, a federal judge has sentenced Caring Hearts Memphis owner Princess Terry to more than five years in prison for fraudulently billing insurance company Humana and for identity theft, the Department of Justice says in a release. Terry pleaded guilty to billing services on days when patients were hospitalized; in excess of 24 hours in a day for the same patient; and for services rendered after the patient was deceased, the DOJ says. “Terry also committed aggravated identity theft by forging patients’ signatures without their knowledge or permission on consent-for-services forms and progress notes … about services not actually performed,” the release adds.
