Help Hospitals With Readmissions For P4P

Hospitals soon may have extra incentive to line up home care services for their discharged patients. CMS has issued a proposed rule that would influence hospital payments via a "value-based purchasing" system (ie, pay for performance) in 2013. Among the hospital P4P elements: rates of readmission. Home care agencies could help improve readmission rates, industry proponents say. The hospital P4P proposed rule is online at www.ofr.gov/inspection.aspx.
