Sequestration suspension has helped bail out struggling home health and hospice agencies during the pandemic, and Congress should make sure it continues to do so.
So say industry representatives in a March 2 letter to Senate leaders. “America’s health care providers continue to face overwhelming financial challenges and pressures associated with higher overhead costs due to personal protective equipment and other safeguards, lost revenue due to delayed non-emergent procedures, bonus pay to staff, and many other challenges,” says the letter to Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-New York) and Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky). “Without future relief to providers, America’s health care system could be at risk of collapse. As such, we respectfully ask that the Senate include an extension of the moratorium on the Medicare sequester cuts in COVID legislation so that we can continue to care for patients, families and communities,” says the letter signed by the National Association for Home Care & Hospice, the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, and more. At press time, the Senate was expected to take up the House-passed COVID-19 stimulus package soon, but the exact timeline was still unclear.
