Industry Notes:

HealthSouth Buys CareSouth Home Health Chain

HealthSouth Corp.-owned Encompass Home Health is buying CareSouth’s home health business for about $170 million, the two companies say in releases. CareSouth operates 45 home health locations in seven states and generated revenues of about $104 million in 2014, Birmingham, Ala.-based HealthSouth says.

Reminder: Last November, the inpatient rehab facility chain announced its purchase of Encompass for about $750 million from a private investment firm (see Eli’s HCW, Vol. XXIII, No. 42).

Augusta, Ga.-based CareSouth Home Health Services will retain its Senior Living Services division, its Health at Home partnership with LCS, its management and care center services, and its captive insurance business. The division will also change its name to Careity.
