Three recent deals highlight the popularity of health systems joining forces with home health providers. Example #1: In Omaha, Nebraska, the Visiting Nurse Association has formed a partnership with Memorial Community Hospital & Health System under which the VNA has taken over MCH&HS’s home health and hospice business. Dwindling reimbursement led the hospital to its decision, an official told the Washington County Pilot-Tribune & Enterprise newspaper. The nonprofit VNA expanded its service area by two counties with the partnership, according to the Enterprise. MCH&HS made about 6,025 home health visits and 900 hospice visits last year. Example #2: In Dallas, nonprofit health system Baylor Scott & White Health and Texas Home Health, whose parent is the national AccentCare chain, have formed a joint venture, reports the Dallas News. Texas Home Health will manage the operations of their jointly owned Texas Home Health Group organization, which will serve 57 of the state’s more-than 250 counties. Example #3: Great Neck, New York-based Northwell Health System has acquired VNA of Hudson Valley based in Tarrytown, reports Newsday. The VNA, which had about 350 employees, had been running at a loss, according to news reports.
