The home health and hospice nurses at St. Charles Health System in Bend, Oregon have filed for a union election to join the Oregon Nurses Association, reports Central Oregon Daily News. “St. Charles has experienced a lot of management instability and changes in priorities have meant many highly qualified staff have left the system. We don’t have the resources we need to adequately serve our patients, but we are expected to keep up the same high level of care. It’s not fair to our patients or health care providers,” says RN Cherie Iannucchi in a statement, according to the Daily News. The move comes after St. Charles paid about $2 million in error to its employees earlier this year, then demanded the money back all at once in August. The mistaken payments happened when the health system’s payroll contractor was hacked, forcing St. Charles to calculate payroll manually, the Daily News says.
