If your fundraising has taken a hit lately, you’re not alone. Sunshine Haven Inc., a hospice facility in Olmito, Texas, has seen donations plummet over the past year. “Times are different now post-COVID,” executive director Veronica Lucio tells The Brownsville Herald newspaper. “People do not and cannot give the way they used to. Some of that is because of employment issues and some of that is because of inflation.” For example: A popular fundraiser for the nonprofit, a donation “drive-through,” netted $10,000 in 2020. Cash donations fell to $6K in 2021 and just $400 this year, Lucio reports. “Nonprofits are getting hit. Everyone’s getting hit,” she tells the Herald.
