Industry Notes:

FCC Program Could Help Your Patients Afford Internet

If you’d like to conduct more telehealth visits but don’t have the resources to furnish patients with equipment and connectivity, an FCC program may be able to help.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services “is working to help build awareness about the Affordable Connectivity Program” from the Federal Communications Commission, it says. “The new long-term benefit will help to lower the cost of broadband service for eligible households struggling to afford internet service,” CMS explains in a release.

The ACP provides an up-to-$30 per month discount for broadband service; an up-to-$75 per month discount for households on qualifying Tribal lands; and a one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet purchased through a participating provider if the household contributes more than $10 but less than $50 toward the purchase price, CMS says.

Information on who qualifies and how they can apply is at www.fcc.gov/acp.
