Don’t waste time and resources on appeals tasks you don’t need to do, urges one HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor. “When submitting a redetermination, you are required to submit all necessary medical documentation to support the services billed on your claim,” explains MAC National Government Services. “You must submit a complete medical record when requesting an appeal,” NGS says in a recent message to providers.
However: “If documentation was previously submitted to the Medical Review Department or another contractor, such as the recovery auditor (RA), Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) or Unified Program Integrity Contractor (UPIC), those medical records are included in the file reviewed by the Appeals department and you do not have to resend those records to us,” NGS advises.
