If you’ve been running into NOE submission delays thanks to a requirement to include the physician’s NPI, you should see some relief.
CR 9114 issued April 3 indicated that the attending physician information included on the Notice of Election “must include, but is not limited to, the attending physician’s name and NPI number.” But the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is relenting on that requirement, reports the National Association for Home Care & Hospice.
CMS will include language indicating that the attending physician info on the NOE “should include, but is not limited to, the attending physician’s full name, office address, NPI number, or any other detailed information to clearly identify the attending physician,” according to NAHC. In other words, the NPI won’t be mandatory.
At press time, CMS hadn’t yet issued the revised CR. The old April 3 one was at www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Guidance/Transmittals/Downloads/R205BP.pdf.
