CMS Sets Newest Timeline For DME Bidding

The next recompete of Round I competitive bidding for durable medical equipment suppliers is on, CMS has announced. The newly named “Round 1 2017 will occur in the same nine metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) as the Round 1 Recompete,” CMS notes on its bidding website at dmecompetitivebid.com.

Change: In June, CMS removed Non-invasive pressure support ventilators from bidding, the agency notes.

The window for bidding runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 16, 2015. The contracts will take effect Jan. 1, 2017.

Remember: Round 1 covers nine MSAs and Round 2 covers 91 metro areas, notes VGM Group on its website.  “The remainder of the country (about half, by Medicare FFS beneficiary count) will NOT bid in a future round, but effectively inherit the competitive bid payment amounts from either their regional CBA neighbors, or an average of the entire country’s single payment amounts.”
