Home health agencies should watch out for a newly reported claims system glitch hitting their claims. The problem: “Home health (HH) final and adjusted claims with 2022 dates of service are receiving U538E incorrectly, when there is an older period on file,” reports HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor National Government Services in a message to providers. “This prevents providers from being able to adjust these claims and update patient status from ‘06’ to any other patient status,” according to NGS. For now, affected HHAs have to sit tight. “The Common Working File (CWF) maintainer is aware of the issue and ... NGS is awaiting information on pending resolution,” the MAC says.
