Agencies that received COVID-19 Accelerated and Advance Payments now have one more set of updated guidance to check. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has revised its CAAP frequently asked question set. “If you got these payments, learn more about how recoupment works and how it affects your Medicare claims payment amounts,” CMS urges.
For example: “Providers and suppliers are able to submit a request for an Extended Repayment Schedule (ERS) to their assigned MAC after they receive a demand letter requiring reimbursement of an outstanding CAAP balance,” FAQ No. 18 explains. “Since Congress specified the CAAP recoupment terms, providers and suppliers cannot request an ERS for their outstanding CAAP balance until they receive this demand letter 29 months from the date the CAAP was issued.” See the nine-page, 31-FAQ set online at www.cms.gov/files/document/covid-advance-accelerated-payment-faqs-06-24-21.pdf.
