Wondering what that new “UTN” field in the Fiscal Intermediary Shared System is for? You don’t have to worry about it — yet.
The field on FISS claim page 02 is for a “Unique Tracking Number,” HHH Medicare Ad-ministrative Contractor CGS says on its website. But “at this time, home health and hospice providers are not required to enter any information into the UTN field,” the MAC says.
Medicare also added a 14-byte field after the existing 18-digit TREAT. AUTH. CODE field (Treatment Authorization) on FISS claim page 05, CGS adds. “The new 14-byte field must be blank, or contain valid Medicare data,” CGS instructs.
Hospice providers are not affected by changes to the TREAT. AUTH. CODE field, at this time, CGS adds.
