Industry Notes:

Beware This Common Hospice Billing Mistake That's On The Rise

Don’t let a common hospice claim problem affect your cash flow, one HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor says.

Problem: “CGS is seeing an increase in claims where hospice providers are not billing with Occurrence Span Code (OSC) 77 and applicable dates when appending the KX modifier on all claims up to the receipt date of the NOE with remarks as to why the NOE was not timely,” the MAC reports.

Solution: “Providers only want to bill the OSC 77, with applicable dates, and KX modifier when the NOE was billed untimely, and an exception is being requested,” CGS says. Instructions for filing claims for untimely NOEs are at https://cgsmedicare.com/hhh/education/materials/ submitting_claims_untimely_noes.html.
