Beware of yet another way 2020 is a unique year — this time for diagnosis coding purposes. For the ICD-10 update effective Oct. 1, “there is no ‘gratis period’ for implementation,” notes consultant Dee Kornetti with Kornetti & Krafft Health Care Solutions. “Claims dated on/after 10/1/2020 must reflect the current code set,” Kornetti emphasizes in the firm’s electronic newsletter.
“The new code set is published and should replace old, and now ‘outdated’ versions,” Kornetti stresses. “In other words, throw [out] that old code book you used 9/30/2020! It is not current.”
