Don’t forget an April 30 deadline that could land you in Medicare payment suspension if you miss it. Providers’ Quarterly Medicare Credit Balance Reports for the quarter ended March 31 are due April 30, reminds HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor CGS on its website. “A Medicare credit balance is an amount determined to be refundable to the Medicare program for an improper or excess payment made to a provider because of patient billing or claims processing errors,” CGS reviews.
“Credit balances should only be reported at the end of the quarter if the provider has not repaid the amount to Medicare through a voluntary refund, [has] not received a remittance advice indicating that the adjustment associated with the credit has been adjudicated, or [has] not received a demand letter for the credit balance amount,” HHH MAC Palmetto GBA explains on its website. “Payments will be suspended if this is not sent on time,” stresses Lynn Labarta with Imark Billing in Miami.
