No matter how tight your staffing situation, make sure you’re running even your aides through the OIG’s exclusion database — or you may regret it.
Case in point: Valley of the Sun Home Healthcare in Glendale, Ariz. recently entered into a $21,691 settlement agreement with the HHS Office of Inspector General, the OIG says on its enforcement actions webpage. It “resolves allegations that VSHHC employed an individual who was excluded from participating in any Federal health care program,” the watchdog agency explains. “OIG’s investigation revealed that the excluded individual, a home health aide, provided items or services that were billed to Federal health care programs.”
