2% Sequestration Now Taking A Bite Out Of Claims

The full 2 percent sequestration amount is hitting your claims as of July 1, HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor CGS reminds providers in a new post on its website. The cut is “applied to all Medicare FFS claims with a date of service/‘through’ date of service on or after July 1, 2022,” CGS says. Details: “For claims with DOS that span July 1, 2022 ... the approved amount is determined based on the entire claim (not DOS on or after July 1 only),” CGS adds. You’ll know your claim is affected if the remittance advice includes claim adjustment reason code (CARC) 253 (Sequestration – reduction in federal payment), CGS explains.
