The Department of Health and Human Services has declared two hurricane-related public health emergencies that offer home health and hospice agencies some regulatory relief. On Sept. 20, HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra declared a Hurricane Fiona PHE for Puerto Rico dated back to Sept. 17. And on Sept. 26, Becerra declared a Hurricane Ian PHE for Florida dated back to Sept. 23. See PHE declarations at https://aspr.hhs.gov/legal/PHE/Pages/default.aspx. “Therefore, 1135 waivers are active for Puerto Rico,” HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor National Government Services noted in a message to providers after that PHE declaration.
