If you’re like many home health and hospice agencies, recent cases of violence against workers in the home has you seeking solutions. The National Association for Home Care & Hospice and Johns Hopkins Home Care have some ideas for you. An 11-page report outlines the problem and suggests solutions ranging from implementing a pre-screening risk assessment tool to training staff when to exit situations that seem unsafe. “Many organizations are implementing technologic resources or are able to send two employees or security personnel to appointments for care in the home,” NAHC and Johns Hopkins say in a release. “These practices are encouraged if practical for the company, but there are many things immediately available to ensure the safety of all employees,” they offer. The report is online at https://nahc.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Home-Care-Worker-Safety-Resource-Guide_FINAL.pdf.
