Inpatient hospices need to be ready for some COVID-19 blanket waivers to end in a few short weeks. Reminder: In a memo to State Survey Agencies last month, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services noted it plans to eliminate certain “emergency declaration blanket waivers” for inpatient hospices and other facilities like skilled nursing facilities and hospitals (see HCW by AAPC, Vol. XXXI, No. 14). For inpatient hospices, that means the affected waivers will end on June 6, note attorney Conor O. Duffy and legal intern Erin Howard at law firm Robinson+Cole in Hartford, Conn. The waivers include those related to provisions on Life Safety Code Facility and Medical Equipment Inspection, Testing & Maintenance (ITM) and Outside Windows and Doors, Duffy and Howard note in online analysis.
