Industry Notes

• An April fix for the Medicare claims system incorrectly applying U5181 didn't work, reports Palmetto GBA. The reason code states "Hospice Notice of Election (NOE) or claim overlaps or begins on or after 080597 and occurrence code 27 and date is not present; or if present is not equal to the first day of the new period," Palmetto notes on its website. But claims are returning to provider (RTPing) "even though the hospice provider has entered the appropriate certification or recertification date in accordance with occurrence code 27." Hospices that receive this code in error can contact Palmetto's provider contact center for assistance, the intermediary says.
