Will CMS Use CERT Data To Target High-Risk HHAs?

Your CERT results could land you in hot water, if CMS listens to the OIG. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services could use Comprehensive Error Rate Testing data to identify high-risk home health agencies for a “multifaceted approach that includes targeted probe-and-educate reviews as well as aspects of its Fraud Prevention System to further reduce improper payments and the error rate for claims paid to HHAs,” the OIG says in a summary of its new report. The OIG used CERT program data from 2014 through 2017 to identify 87 so-called “high-risk HHAs,” says the report at https://oig.hhs.gov/oas/reports/region5/51700035.pdf.
