Whistleblower Files Suit Against Texas DADS

Home care and hospice providers aren’t the only ones that have to worry about whistleblower lawsuits. A woman fired from the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services has filed a whistleblower lawsuit against DADS after she alleged it wasn’t keeping accurate records on home care providers, reports KSAT TV.

Among other misdeeds, DADS didn’t update HHA records for items such as address changes and management changes, says Jennifer Cramptom. And DADS failed to send HHAs timely licensure notices, Cramptom claims. The suit alleges when those providers would complain to DADS, a supervisor “would falsify and backdate a renewal letter, then charge the agency a late fee,” KSAT reports.

Cramptom filed the suit after being ignored by supervisors and then fired, she says. She also wrote letters to the governor and Texas Attorney General first, according to the station. Crampton is seeking damages of up to $1 million in the suit.
