Industry Note:

Where Is Rural Add-On Help?

A Nov. 21 blog post by CMS Administrator Seema Verma extolls the Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services’ efforts to assist rural providers. “The Trump administration has a track record of tackling long-standing issues in our health care system … and rural health is another challenge we are taking on,” Verma cheers.

The post highlights Patients over Paperwork changes that have affected hospitals, physicians and non-physician practitioners, and more. But in home health, the rural add-on is disappearing. Its phase-out will be complete by 2023.

Congressional action is required to extend the rural add-on, industry representatives note.
