Wait For Licenses Stretches In Commonwealth

Virginia may have ended its moratorium on new HHA licenses, but that doesn't mean new agencies are up and running yet.

The state lifted its two-year moratorium on new home health licenses July 1, and 85 applicants filed their requests, reports the Washington Business Journal. Of the 85, only one -- Progressive Health Care Service of Newport News -- has a license in hand so far.

The state expects to complete site visits for 29 applicants by the end of this month, a health department office of licensure and certification rep tells the newspaper. The state hopes to catch up on the backlog by next summer.
