The Visiting Nurse Service of New York is under fire for misallocating disaster relief funds after Hurricane Sandy.
Of the $760,000 in VNSNY disaster relief funds from the Administration for Children and Families that the HHS Office of Inspector Gen-eral reviewed, $385,000 didn’t comply with federal requirements, the OIG charges in a new report. VNSNY received $4.8 million overall from ACF.
VNSNY budgeted inappropriate costs unrelated to the hurricane, such as fireproofing and Head Start program costs, the OIG claims. VNSNY disputes the OIG’s findings, in comments on the report.
The OIG has “no basis” to require a refund, it says in the report at https://oig.hhs.gov/oas/reports/region2/21402012.pdf.
