Upcoming Drug Reporting Concerns Hospices
Hospices should get ready for a heavy reporting burden next year. In July, CMS released a transmittal requiring the reporting of many different kinds of data on claims (see Eli’s HCW, Vol. XXII, No. 27). That includes reporting of prescription drugs.
Providers hold "concerns … over the burden associated with submission of prescription drug data," says the National Association for Home Care & Hospice. Hospices must report the drugs — both injectable and non-injectable — on a line item basis per fill, NAHC explains. "Hospices will also be required to report infusion pumps on a line-item basis for each pump order and for each medication refill," the trade group adds. The requirement takes effect April 1, although hospices may begin reporting data Jan. 1 if they wish.
Get up to speed: "Hospices will have to use pharmacy, National Drug Code (NDC) and DME revenue codes (e.g. 0250, 029X and 0636) on the claim in order to include this data," NAHC says.
NAHC is conducting a survey associated with the new requirement at www.surveymonkey. com/s/R2SRF6Q. "The information we gather will be used in discussions with CMS related to the requirement," the trade group says.
