As flu season approaches, try this workaround for a glitch with the Medicare claims system's vaccination roster billing. The problem: CMS now requires that all types of bills include the Type of Admission code, new HHH MAC CGS says in a message to providers. "However, providers are unable to access the ADMIT TYPE field in the Roster Bill Entry screen," says the MAC that took over from Cahaba GBA in June. The solution: Providers can F9 the roster bill without the code and the claim will go to the return to provider (RTP) file, CGS notes. "Enter the roster bill via the Roster Bill Entry screen (Option 87), then access Claims Correction (Option 27) to correct the claim from the RTP file by entering the Type of Admission code," the MAC instructs. Providers have two more options -- submitting the vaccine on an individual claim basis via Claims Entry (Option 26) or holding the roster bill until this issue has been resolved, CGS notes.
