Don’t forget you need to fulfill two separate reporting requirements to qualify for your full hospice payment update in 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services reminds providers in a new message. Both requirements cover data from Jan. 1, 2019, to Dec. 31, 2019. Requirement #1: “For Hospice Item Set (HIS) data, remember that the timeliness threshold requirement for the FY2021 reporting year and beyond is 90 percent,” CMS says. “This means that to be determined compliant with HIS requirements, hospices must submit at least 90 percent of their HIS records on time (within 30 days of the patient’s admission or discharge date).” No size or newness exemptions exist for HIS reporting, CMS adds. More information is at www.cms.gov/medicare/quality-initiatives-patient-assessment-instruments/hospice-quality-reporting/hospice-item-set-his.html. Requirement #2: Hospices’ approved vendors must submit Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) satisfaction survey data to the CAHPS Hospice Survey Data Warehouse on a continuous monthly basis to be in compliance. Hospices can qualify for an exemption for size to the CAHPS requirement. More information is at www.hospicecahpssurvey.org.
