Telehealth Claims Accepted Again By Texas Medicaid

Telehealth providers in Texas can submit valid claims to the state Medicaid program again, thanks to a recent state court ruling — at least for now.

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission must accept claims submitted with pre-2019 codes, since the telehealth codes put into place Jan. 1 can be submitted only by physicians, said State District Judge Catherine Mauzy in a Jan. 17 ruling granting a restraining order, reports the Austin American-Statesman newspaper.

Four home health agencies filed suit against HHSC on behalf of the estimated 300 agencies impacted by the coding change, according to the newspaper. The change has caused numerous patient discharges, the agencies claimed.
