Tampa HHA Owner Convicted Of Medicare Fraud

The owner of Gold Care Home Health Services Inc. in Tampa, Fla., has been convicted of Medicare fraud, according to press reports. Pilar Garcia Lorenzo and the agency billed for services that weren’t provided or weren’t legitimately prescribed by a physician, notes the Tampa Bay Business Journal. Gold Care received about $2.5 million from Medicare, and about $2 million of that was laundered through fictitious shell companies in Hialeah, the Department of Justice says in a release. Garcia Lorenzo faces sentencing Jan. 5.
